Guest Lecture on Successful Management of Projects

Mr. Aditya Kaushik, Head of IT in Adyard Abu Dhabi LLC, recently delivered a virtual Guest Lecture to Skyline students on the topic “Successful Management of Projects.” Mr. Kaushik shared his knowledge on the strategies in developing a project plan, risk management plan, managing scope creep, developing Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS), inspiring project leadership to manage projects successfully.
 

The Guest Lecture is a platform where students are exposed to the trends and industry insights to enrich their knowledge and skills.

EDP on Intermediate Excel at NETS International

With its goal of helping organizations improve their productivity, Skyline University College regularly conducts skill-enriching workshops and seminars to corporates. On March 7, 2020, Skyline University College, through its Centre for Continuing Learning, conducted an Executive Development Program (EDP) on Intermediate Excel at NETS International in Dubai. Mr. Tauqeer Faiz, SUC Instructor, conducted the workshop which was attended by employees of various organizational levels including Project Coordinators, Admin Manager, Document Controller, Technician, and Office Secretary. At the end of the one-day workshop, the participants learned about the Spreadsheet software and the different formulas, as well as tables and illustrations.

 

Industry Visit to Nakheel Mall

Through industry visits, students can identify their prospective area of work and improve their interpersonal skills. On that note, Skyline University College, through its Corporate Affairs Office, organized an industry visit to Nakheel Mall in Palm Jumeirah for the students of Marketing and Retail Management. The students, along with faculty members Dr. Ramakrishna Yamanandra and Dr. Pranav Kumar, visited the mall on February 26, 2020, where they learned about the mall’s operations management strategies, strategies for increasing footfall, customer experience and engagement, risk management, and demand and capacity management from Mr. Patrick Sakr, Senior Manager at Nakheel Mall. Skyline is thankful to Ms. Rukhshona Kuvatova, Sales Consultant, in making this industry visit possible.

21st Skyline Cup Cricket Tournament and 7th Skyline Inter-University Sports Festival

Skyline’s Cricket Team bagged the championship title at the 21st Skyline Cup Cricket Tournament and 7th Skyline Inter-University Sports Festival held at SUC campus from February 16 to 27, 2020. Sixteen universities competed in various categories: throw ball, basketball, table tennis, cricket, and football. Skyline was also a runner-up in the throw ball-women category.

Skyline University College, through its Sports Department, organizes annual sports fest to encourage the young generation to engage in sports activities as these bring positive experience and play an important role in a student’s life.

Skyline Cricket and Football Teams Won in an Inter-University Sports Fest

Skyline Cricket Team won in the week-long inter-university sports festival hosted by Gulf Medical University, which culminated in an awarding ceremony on February 20, 2020. The Skyline team also bagged the runner-up position in Football. Around 16 universities from the UAE participated in the tournaments for Cricket and Football.

Skyline University encourages its students to engage in sports activities as these bring positive experience and play an important role in a student’s life.

EDP on Customer Service and Sales Negotiation

Skyline University College conducts Executive Development Program (EDP) to hone the professional skills not just of senior executives and CEOs, but also of middle level and junior executives in various areas such as customer service, negotiation and leadership skills, finance, and IT, among others. On that note, Skyline organized an EDP on Customer Service and Sales Negotiation on February 20, 2020, at Al Dobowi Group, Dubai. The EDP was attended by 26 executives including Sales and Retail Manager, General Manager, and Business Head.

Faculty members, Dr. Kakul Agha and Dr. Sakthivel A.M., along with the Dean for the School of Business Dr. Ajith Kumar, conducted sessions on customer management, sales strategies, and sales negotiations. The event concluded with a certificate-giving ceremony presided by Dr. Ajith Kumar, Dean for the School of Business, and Mr. Muhammad Rasheed Khalid, Head of Corporate Affairs and Centre for Continuing Learning. The officials from the Management of Al Dobowi represented by Mr. Garfield presented the vote of thanks to Skyline University and its officials for conducting the customized program and gave an assurance to work closely for future training requirements.

SUC Conducts Outreach Program in POLO-Dubai

The Filipino employees of Skyline University College organized a community outreach program in POLO (Philippine Overseas Labor Office) in Dubai last February 14, 2020. The objective of the program was to help the victims of the distressed women and victims of human trafficking sheltered in POLO.

The SUC staff prepared food and organized games to bring happiness to the victims and take their mind off their problems. This 4th Outreach Program in POLO, Dubai, was made possible through the support of SUC executives, faculty members, and the Community Services Committee headed by Dr. Osama Ali Thawabeh. Labor Attaché Atty. Felicitas Bay extended its appreciation to the support provided by Skyline University College to the community.

Students Innovation project

Recently, Skyline students Tasneem, Nirmal Kumar, Mir Arafat, and Mohammed Arif, along with faculty member Dr. Kakul Agha, received certificates of appreciation from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for showcasing their innovation projects called “Chew-in-time” and “HeyFund.”

Skyline University College encourages its students to participate in such events to nurture innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in students.

SUC and TYV Organized the 5th CrossFire Competition

Skyline University College and The Young Vision organized the 5th Crossfire Debating Competition on February 12, 2020. This year, 72 students from 18 schools across the UAE participated in the competition and debated on the topic: “Will Robots Ever Rule the World?” Al Ansar International (Girls) was the champion, Al Kamal International School Al Azra was the 1st Runner Up, and Providence English School was declared the 2nd Runner Up.

CrossFire is an annual event hosted by Skyline to promote the public-speaking skills of students and create a platform for intellectual interactions.

15th CEO Lecture Series with Dubai Refreshment CEO

It was an evening of learning at SUC campus on February 10, 2020 when Mr. Tarek El Sakka, CEO of Dubai Refreshment, gave a talk for the 15th Edition of the CEO Lecture Series. Mr. El Sakka shared his journey to success, business strategy, and plans for his organization during the Q&A session with Skyline faculty member Dr. Kakul Agha.

The CEO Lecture Series is a regular talk conducted by SUC to expose students to the professional and entrepreneurial world and to inspire them to be leaders of tomorrow. The talk was made possible through the efforts of SUC’s Corporate Affairs Office.

School Visit and Breast Cancer Seminar with RMMC Students

Skyline, through its Community Services Commitee headed by the Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Osama Ali Thawabeh, organized a workshop for the College of Education student interns from Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges, Philippines, on February 6, 2020. Dr. Ali Thawabeh and Dr. Ajith Kumar, Dean for the School of Business, welcomed the 19 students, Mr. Kristoffer Franz Millado, RMMC President; Dr. Analisa Amada, the Dean for the College of Education; and Dr. Marichu P. Diendo, Director for Research & Development Office and Chairman for Accreditation.

Dr. Deepak Kalra, the Dean for SUC School of IT, gave an informative workshop on innovation and disruption, Dr. Sharon Mendoza-Dreisbach, faculty member, gave an interactive seminar on breast cancer, Dr. Ajith talked about Boot Camp, and Mr. Mohammad Rashid, Head of Corporate Affairs Office and Centre for Continuing Learning (CCL), talked about CCL and its professional courses.  At the end of the workshop, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad In’airat awarded certificates of appreciation to the participants. Students were also given a tour around the campus by Mr. Roel Pulangco, CCL Assistant.

The workshop was part of SUC’s CSR initiatives to give back to society through education.

SUC Book Club "Book Hunt" Activity

Congratulations to the winners of the “Book Hunt” contest organized by the Library Department as a part of SUC Book Club activity. The contest ran from January 19 until January 30, 2020.
