Abstract

The economic growth in India is accompanied with employee attrition problem. The attrition rate has been rising in various sectors. Organizations are devising innovative ways to retain talent. All retention strategies seem to be based upon certain theoretical concepts. Various researchers have tried to discover and analyze the work attitudes which play a key role in retaining employees. This paper discusses the concepts of Job Em- beddedness, Organizational Commitment, Job Involvement, Job Satisfaction, and Employee Engagement in understanding ‘what retains employees’. An attempt has been made to identify linkages between these work attitudes so as to provide theoretical framework for devising effective retention strategies. The paper concludes with a discussion of implications for management practice.
