Job Description:

 

To play a key role in establishing a research & enterprise culture across SUC. It will ensure the delivery of the University’s external income generation targets, through the development of an effective portfolio of support and partnership working with, and for, stakeholders across the University. To support the University’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework, and other similar returns, whilst monitoring and reporting on the external research & enterprise environment.

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

 

Functional Role:

  • Manage staff within the Research, setting and monitoring team objectives, including identifying training requirements and performance management issues as appropriate.
  • Develop the University’s external/internal research, in line with the University strategy.
  • Explore and set key strategic objectives relating to long-term research, including review and development of strategic activities to increase research level.
  • Disseminate complex information in such a form to ensure the understanding of colleagues, including through workshops, surgery sessions, and one-to-one coaching.
  • Scrutinize and critique research of major strategic importance to the institution, advising and coaching staff on improvements leading to increased success rates.
  • Ensure efficient service delivery for research.
  • Conduct risk assessments, where appropriate, particularly for large research.
  • Responsible for post-award research & enterprise support activities, including audit.
  • Advise on relevant legal and governance issues relevant to research, including Intellectual Property Rights and research ethics.
  • Undertake continued professional development, ensuring skill levels relating to research best practices are kept up to date.
  • Represent Research & Enterprise in liaison with Colleges, in activities such as briefings, presentations, events, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Establish contacts with the national & international academic community, including external research networks and funding councils, building relationships to increase collaborative working opportunities.
  • Actively represent Research & Enterprise on appropriate university committees, presenting papers and leading where necessary.
  • Support programs by using data to improve programs and respond to client needs.
  • Work with key staff to set evaluation outcome goals.
  • Develop, prepare, and deliver training, CPD, and briefings to staff on external income generation issues.
  • Analyze complex information on research & innovation activity, manipulating data and interpreting it for the Head of Research and Innovation, Vice Chancellor, including KPIs, targets, competitor scanning, and benchmarking.
  • Play a critical role in the Research leadership team.
  • Undertake other duties as may reasonably be requested and commensurate with the post's nature and grade.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Big Data Analytics and related areas of AI and Machine Learning, contributing to curriculum development, conducting high-quality research, and engaging in service activities within the department and university community.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in Big Data Analytics, ensuring alignment with program educational objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Engage students through innovative teaching methods, experiential learning opportunities, and real-world applications.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including designing new courses and updating existing ones to reflect advances in the field.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Carry a teaching load as per the handbook.
  • Prepare lectures, tutorials, class exercises, quizzes, and tests to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Monitor, assess, record, and disseminate students’ performance periodically.
  • Counsel/advise students to achieve academic excellence in coordination with the Dean – Student Affairs (DSA).
  • Coordinate with the Vice Chancellor & Dean regarding academic matters and guidance.
  • Coordinate with Deputy Director Academic Support Services/Registrar for Academic Support Services matters and guidelines.
  • Accomplish administrative responsibilities assigned from time to time by Dean offices and within calendars.
  • Submit the Teaching Portfolio and Course Report before the end of each semester for approval by the Teaching Effectiveness Committee.
  • Meet all administrative deadlines, including submission of grades, question papers, course files, and quality checks (if applicable).
  • Maintain availability for students outside the classroom and follow the advisory schedule.
  • Evaluate and grade student work promptly and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Submit examination papers and answer keys per the schedules and deadlines.
  • Assist in preparing examination questions for formal assessments in coordination with the group leader.
  • Reschedule missed classes within the semester schedule after obtaining approval from the Dean.
  • Engage classes as per schedule and inform the Administration Department of emergencies at least two hours before class.
  • Attend Pre-Semester Orientation and collect all course-related requirements.
  • Deliver the course as per the provided course outline.
  • Maintain an online attendance sheet and counsel students missing classes without valid reasons per SUC attendance policies.
  • Complete teaching/tutoring hours as per the contract and class schedule.
  • Meet with the group leader as per the issued calendar.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary by Management in SUC’s interest.
