On its 25th year of consistently imparting quality education, Skyline University College (SUC) is proud of commemorating its inspiring story of growth and success since its inception till date in a coffee table book that was inaugurated on April 27, 2016 at SUC campus.
SUC Founder-President Mr. Kamal Puri along with SUC COEC Mr. Nitin Anand and three of the Board of Governors: Dr. Ghanem Mohammed Al-Hajr, Chairman for Al Hawajer Holding; Mr. Ibrahim Barakeh, Principal for Al Shola Private School – Sharjah and; H.E. Marwan Al Sarkal, Chief Executive Officer for Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) have graced the occasion.
The coffee table book reflects the journey of SUC and its rapid growth in the changing time with its uncompromising commitment to deliver academic excellence and training to a multicultural set of students and professionals. It also takes pride of its dedicated faculty members who have time and again shared their expertise to develop holistic characteristics among students not only in the field of business, travel and tourism, and information technology, but also to serve the community and demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and competencies.
SUC is a testament of knowledge, skills, and value-based education in UAE.
Skyline University College (SUC) hosted a visit from the government officials of Andhra Pradesh, India on April 23, 2016. The honorable Minister for HRD Shri Ganta Srinivasa Garu was accompanied by Smt Sumita Dawra, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, GoAP; Shri Anil Punetha, IAS, Chief Commissioner Land Acquisition (CCLA) & Spl Chief Secretary to Government of AP; Shri Yuvraj, IAS Collector Vishakhapatnam; Shri Srikantha Reddy, IFS State Project Director RUSA; Shri VSS Kumar, Vice Chancellor JNTU and; Sumathi Vasudev, Consul (PIC & Education), CGI Dubai.
SUC Dean Dr. Amitabh Upadhya welcomed the guests with a presentation of SUC's overview followed by a discussion on the possibility of articulations in the future and a brief campus tour. SUC is privileged and honored to have been able to accommodate the dignitaries of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Prohibited drugs are the main cause of many accidents, loss of lives, and various health problems around the world. To raise awareness to this universal phenomenon, the Services Committee of Skyline University College (SUC) has conducted a Drug Awareness Seminar on April 11th, 2016. Lieutenant Adnan Al Hamadi of Sharjah Police was the speaker of this occasion.
The drug abuse not only affects the physical but also one's mental health. The main purpose of this seminar was to educate the students of the dangers of drug use. Lieutenant Adnan Al Hamadi warned the students to stay away from this menace. A video was shown about the origin and effects of drugs and students had an interactive question and answer session. He also discussed the role of Sharjah Police in combating these harmful activities. Finally, the audience was informed of the supportive groups that help students with addictions. Dr. Anthony Miller expressed his words of thanks to those who were present.
Second year Macroeconomics students of Skyline University College organized Economics Day event with the theme: "The Global Economy: Dubai 2020 on the Horizon" on April 12, 2016.
The Middle East, more importantly in the UAE, Dubai will host the next World Expo in 2020. This year's Economics Day focuses mainly on this highly anticipated event as well as what other nations around the world have to offer to build and maintain a good trading connection with different countries and the UAE.
Using posters and visual aids, students were divided into groups and showcased their knowledge on macroeconomic topics such as: national income, gross domestic product, financial and monetary policies, balance of trade, economic growth and development, and changes in unemployment. Each group discussed the potential relationship expansion and build-up between the country that they represent and the UAE based on their understanding of the current economy state. They also presented feasible solutions to help fight unemployment and to promote economic stability of the 28 countries being represented; USA, Australia, Germany, UK, India, Nigeria, Egypt, South Korea and UAE to name a few. The event was under the supervision and coordination of Dr. Wilson Gachiri and was inaugurated by Dr. Sudhakar Kota.
Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX) 2016 commenced on April 13, 2016 at Dubai Convention & Exhibition Centre with the active participation of universities, schools, and training providers around the world including Skyline University College (SUC). The occasion was inaugurated by H.E. Sheik Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.
During the first day of GETEX 2016, SUC Dean Dr. Amitabh Upadhya, Deputy Director of Public Relations Mr. Firas Al Tabbaa, Deputy Director of Marketing and Admissions Mr. Rakesh Gaur, and faculty members had the privilege of meeting H.E. Sheik Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan at SUC StandD400. The faculty members and staff of Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Center for Professional Development and Events department worked together as a team in promoting SUC programs and short training courses. SUC's goal, as it ventures for continuous excellence in the field of business, IT, and travel and tourism is to increase its number in terms of enrollees and affiliations with various entities that will highly benefit the students' educational and career growth.
SUC has provided aptitude test, personal counseling, and in-depth consultation to aspiring students who are on the verge of decision-making and to parents who are in full support to their children's future endeavors in higher education. "I know Skyline that's why we're here. I think Skyline has a good set of faculty and that's what I'm looking for, for my son. He's now working with his father and he is the best. Your program offers are very nice. Let's hope for the best," says parent Harsha Jagda after being oriented with SUC's admission policies. "There's a 75% chance that I will consider Skyline after I graduate in high school. The thing is, I am looking for a school that has sports activities. And what they told me today about Skyline, you have cricket, basketball, volleyball and so on and that's really a good thing. I want to major in Finance," says Druv Chaney of Delhi Private School Dubai. SUC welcomes and congratulates the new graduates as they prepare to enter higher education.
Skyline University College HR Department organized a Faculty Development Workshop Program for all SUC faculties on April 5, 2016. The workshop was spearheaded by speakers, Dr. Amitabh Upadhaya and Dr. Nadir Ali Kolachi as they tackled Case and Research Writing Techniques. The main focus of this said event is to train faculties and facilitate with the requirements of a reputable journals around the world.
The first part of the workshop was mainly a discussion on the writing techniques needed to produce upright and conscientious small and long cases, the processes that follow, and the standards of Quality Research. Whereas the second part proceeded with activities were faculties were clustered in different groups to work on research papers and case studies. The faculties have also started their initial draft as guided by the principles and methods and applied what they learned from the workshop.
Skyline University College is conducting a free IELTS workshop from 27th to 31st March. Basically it is meant for the school teachers who are required to submit the IELTS scores to their respective schools as a fulfillment of ministry's mandate. It was quite delightful to see the participation of all levels of school teachers with great enthusiasm. This five-day workshop will end on 31st March.
The career advisors from FES Higher Education Consultants Pakistan visited Skyline University College today, March 31, 2016. The delegates were briefed with necessary information such as SUC's programs, admissions and qualification. The visit was then followed by a campus tour and refreshments.
Skyline University Sharjah and Sharjah Tatweer Forum collaborated together this year to conduct the 2nd Inter University Business Plan and New Idea Competition 2016. The event was guided by the philosophy of enabling students to hone their business plan writing skills and also develop new ideas for making Sharjah a better place to live.
The Founder President of Skyline University College Mr. Kamal Puri and the COEC Mr. Nitin Anand have highly engaged with their vision and support to nurture the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club at Skyline which was inaugurated by Mr. Jassem Al Beloushi, Chairman, Sharjah Tatweer Forum during 2015.
The Chief Guest for 2nd Inter University Business Plan and New Idea Competition 2016 was Mr Jasim Mohammed Al Balushi, Chairman of Sharjah Tatweer Forum and Guest of Honor were Mr Ahmed Bin Saed Al Suwaidi, Head of the Commercial Investment Section, Sharjah Economic Development Department; Mr Khalfan Jasim, Development Manager, Tejar Dubai; Mr Terry Wang, MD, and Ms Rupal, HR Manager Hisense Middle East. Industry Judges included Ms Ruchika Singhal, Managing Director, BBlunt Dubai; Mr Sukant Mishra, Managing Director, Octagon Ventures; and Mr Faizan A. Sangani, Brand Manager, ABC International LTD.
Indeed a very overwhelming response was seen this year too for the event with participation even from Middle East College, Sultanate of Oman. The participating Universities from UAE were Manipal University, BITS Pilani Dubai, BITS Pilani RAK, Hariott Watt University, SP Jain School of Global Management, Institute of Management Technology, Murdoch University, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, and Skyline University College. The competition was tough as all participants were well prepared and highly enthusiastic.
For the business plan category the participation was received from higher education institutions whereas for the new Idea Competition, general public was also invited to participate. Innovation Club members visited different malls in Sharjah to collect information from mall visitors. There were three categories in which ideas were being requested namely (1) Enhancing Happiness and Well Being of Residents of Sharjah (2) Enhancing Transportation and Improving Traffic Situations in Sharjah and (3) Developing Vibrant SME Sector in Sharjah.
Hisense Co. Ltd. a Chinese multinational white goods and electronics manufacturer was the main sponsor of the event who provided winners and runner up teams with tabs and phones. Mr Terry, the MD of the event was highly passionate in sponsoring this event as he feels entrepreneurship is an important element of development for the society. The event was supported by Cool and Cool with gift hampers for students and Tejar Dubai. Very interesting monetary prizes were given out to the winners and runner up teams by Skyline University College. This is turning out to become an interesting event for HEI students in the UAE.

The 16th edition of Cross Fire inter-university debate competition was an event to watch this season. The one day debate competition was held on March 3, 2016. A total of nine teams from universities across the country took part in the event which was held in the #SUC campus. The participating teams debated on the topic “Technology in the classroom is facilitating student learning”. The format of this debate was parliamentary debate. #Skyline emerged the ultimate winners. Congratulation SUC Winners.
Another interesting session was organised for our students majoring in travel & Tourism. Mr Shahid Qadeer, Director, Strategy and Performance Management at GCAA (General Civil Aviation Authority) addressed students while speaking on role of GCAA in Aviation sector. He also enlightened the audience about the career options in the aviation sector and also mentioned that “GCAA is keen to establish professional relationship with prominent institutions like Skyline University College for producing effective manpower which is critical for sustainable growth of aviation sector”.
